Dr. Stephen J. Chu, DMD, MSD, CDT, is an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Ashman Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and the Department of Prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry, a post he has held for some 26 years, and maintains a private practice in fixed, esthetic, and implant prosthodontics in New York City.
He earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in restorative dentistry and prosthodontic training at the University of Washington, and a master's degree in dental technology from NYU, and is a board-certified dental technician (CDT) specializing in ceramics.
He has published more than 100 articles on esthetic, restorative, and implant dentistry and co-authored seven textbooks, including Fundamentals of Color: Shade Matching and Communication in Esthetic Dentistry and Color in Dentistry: A Clinical Guide to Predictable Esthetics. He serves as executive editor of Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry and associate editor of the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, directed NYU's continuing education program in Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry, and has received the Peter Scharer Distinguished Lecturer Award from the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry along with the E.B. Clark Award from the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry.
Together with Dr. Dennis Tarnow, he co-founded the Tarnow Chu Institute, and he lectures nationally and internationally.
At Dental Leaders Academy, he teaches interdisciplinary protocols for esthetic and implant-supported prosthetic reconstruction.
