Dr. Stefano Parma Benfenati outlines a defect-based surgical framework for treating peri-implantitis, matching resective, regenerative and combined approaches to specific bone defect morphologies.
Peri-implantitis remains one of the most significant biological complications in implant dentistry, and its surgical management is most predictable when the treatment approach is matched to the specific morphology of the peri-implant bone defect rather than applied as a single universal protocol. This course presents a defect-driven framework for selecting and performing surgical therapy for peri-implantitis.
The presentation covers resective approaches, including implantoplasty and apically positioned flap procedures, which are best suited to supracrestal or non-contained defects, as well as regenerative approaches using bone grafting materials and membranes for contained intrabony defects, and combined resective-regenerative techniques for defects with mixed morphology. Implant surface decontamination protocols and their role in treatment predictability are also addressed.
