Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli addresses reconstruction and maintenance of the peri-implant papilla, a persistent esthetic challenge in implant therapy, presenting surgical strategies for predictable outcomes.
The loss or absence of the papilla between an implant and an adjacent tooth, or between two adjacent implants, remains one of the most difficult esthetic problems in implant dentistry, particularly in the anterior zone where soft tissue architecture is highly visible. This course examines why papilla loss occurs and presents surgical and prosthetic strategies aimed at reconstructing or preserving it.
The presentation covers the biology of the soft tissue surrounding implants, flap design and grafting techniques used to augment papilla height, and the timing of these interventions relative to implant placement and restoration. It also addresses how prosthetic contour and provisional restoration design can be used to support and stabilize papilla fill once soft tissue volume has been achieved.
