
Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli, DDS, PhD, is Associate Professor of Periodontology at the University of Bologna, Italy, a position he has held since 2000, and an instructor for Harvard's Office of Professional and Lifelong Learning.
He specializes in periodontal plastic surgery, particularly root-coverage and soft-tissue techniques around teeth and implants, an area in which his clinical protocols are widely referenced by periodontists and implant surgeons worldwide.
Prof. Zucchelli earned his PhD in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Bologna in 1999, received the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation's E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery in both 2006 and 2008, and was later named an honorary member of the American Academy of Periodontology. He has authored more than 100 publications indexed in PubMed and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Periodontology and the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry.
He wrote the textbook Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery, published by Quintessence and translated into some 12 languages, which has become a reference text in the field, alongside the companion volume Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery around Implants.
He lectures and teaches live-surgery courses worldwide, bringing advanced periodontal plastic surgery training to Dental Leaders Academy.
