Prof. Dr. Ignazio Loi is the founder and director of the Centro Odontoiatrico Sardo in Cagliari, Italy, and of the affiliated Centro Studi Meridiana, the postgraduate training center associated with the practice.

His clinical and academic work is centered on fixed prosthodontics, in particular the Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT), a tooth-preparation approach he helped originate, document and popularize internationally. BOPT is a finish-line-free preparation concept aimed at preserving and managing peri-prosthetic soft tissue, and it is now applied to restorations on both natural teeth and dental implants.

Dr. Loi co-authored the paper that introduced the technique to the literature, "Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT): A New Approach for Prosthetic Restoration of Periodontically Healthy Teeth," published in the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry in 2013, and has continued to publish on BOPT in peer-reviewed dental journals since. He regularly leads hands-on courses on the technique in Italian cities including Milan, Turin and Padua, and teaches through international academies such as the Autran Dental Academy, Tokuyama Dental Academy and Italian Dental Art.
